Al Franken Wins After 8 Months Battle

Al Franken took a step forward to his pride as he was declared as the US Senate, side tracking Republican Norm Coleman in an eight month long hard fought battle and courtroom drama. “I am so excited to finally be able to work for the people of Minnesota,”said Franken at a press conference at his home in Minneapolis. Franken also said that he had received “a very gracious” call from Coleman following the latter’s defeat.
The court responded to the legal challenge set by Coleman, who disputed the counting of thousand absentee ballots in the contest where Franken won by a narrow margin of 300 votes. “Today’s decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court is terribly unfortunate for voters in the state and fails to uphold their constitutional due to process and equal protection rights,” fumed Michael Thielen, director of the Republican National Lawyers Association. The U.S. President, Barrack Obama said, “I look forward to working with Sen. Franken to build a new foundation of growth and prosperity by lowering health care costs and investing in the kind of clean energy jobs and industries that will help America to lead in the 21st century.”
Before opting for a public office, Franken regularly used to appear in the Saturday Night Live show which is hosted in NBC. Franken later moved on to challenge Coleman, who happened to be a former state prosecutor and the mayor of St. Paul. The new Senator’s swearing will likely come into effect as soon as he returns from the Fourth July recess.
