AIFF likely to appoint ex-AFC official I-league advisor
November 28th, 2009 - 8:15 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) The emergency committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will meet in Kolkata Sunday to select a chief executive for the I-league and is also likely to appoint Carlos Nohra, the former director of competitions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), as an advisor to the league.
The meeting will select the chief executive from the three candidates - former Mahindra United footballer and coach Harish Rao, AIFF director of competitions Anil Kamath and sports management expert Sunando Dhar - who appeared for an interview earlier this month.
A top AIFF official told IANS that Nohra’s experience with the AFC will be an asset for the I-League. Nohra, who was also the deputy general secretary of the AFC, was instrumental in revamping the Asian Champions League.
“Nohra is likely to be offered the role of an advisor. We will try to make the best use of his experience. With Nohra around, AIFF will hope to make the I-league one of the best in the continent,” the official said.
The emergency committee, which is headed by AIFF president Praful Patel, will also appoint the I-league committee.
The committee will also chart out a plan for the national team’s preparation for the 2011 Asian Cup in Doha and the next month’s SAFF Cup in Bangladesh. It will also review the poor performance of the under-16 and under-19 teams in the Asian Championships qualifiers.
