Kolkata, Feb 13 (IANS) After scoring a brilliant 351 Tuesday, rookie Sankalan Ghosh created flutters by picking three wickets and taking three catches on the second day of the match in the Cricket Association of Bengala (CAB) 110 points junior league here Wednesday.

Turning out for Mainland Sambaran Cricket Academy (MSCA) at the Vivekananda Park, left-handed Sankalan tore apart the 38-ward Krira–Unnayan Parishad bowlers with his triple hundred Tuesday, which was his maiden triple-figure score.

I am very satisfied. But I am aware that this is just the beginning. My favourite shots are drives and cuts on the off-side. I idolise Sourav Ganguly,” Sankalan told IANS after the second day’s play here Wednesday.

I am taking this as the first step. I have a long way to go. I want to play for India. I have a lot to improve on in every department of the game, especially the tired shots I sometimes play,” he added.

Sankalan, batting first down, blazed an unbeaten 351 off 211 balls with 56 boundaries and a dozen sixes, enabling his team reach a massive 687 for seven. In reply, the opponents were bowled out for a paltry 99 Wednesday.

Former national selector Sambaran Banerjee, whose academy Sankalan represents, said: “He has great potential. He has been with my academy for the last six years. He is excellent on front foot and plays his drives and cuts very well. But he needs to improve on his shots on the leg side.”

Son of a government employee at Academy of Fine Arts, Sankalan is the younger of the two siblings. Studying in class XI in Uttarpara Government High School, he started his cricket coaching in Friends of the Stadium in Salt Lake, before moving on to MSCA.

His coach at MSCA Debabrata Bhattacharya is very hopeful about Sankalan and said: “Sankalan is humble, hard working and focussed. His strong point is his power to concentrate. He has the mentality to play long innings.
