After Kotla fiasco, Cricket Improvement Committee for DDCA
January 9th, 2010 - 9:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 9 (IANS) The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) Saturday decided to start the process of setting-up a Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), comprising former cricketers, to prevent incidents like the Ferozeshah Kotla pitch fiasco that saw the abandonment of the fifth and the final ODI between India and Sri Lanka last month.
The top brass of the DDCA, including former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi, as also Kirti Azad and Madan Lal, met at association president Arun Jaitley’s residence here.
Jaitley said: “Some very senior people associated with the sports came to discuss about the future of cricket in Delhi. They have given some very valuable suggestions. One of the suggestion is to form a Cricket Improvement Committee. I will discuss the matter in the executive and come up with a proposal. The meeting was very positive.”
Bedi said that the meeting was constructive.
“We have put forward some suggestions. But it’s upto them (DDCA) to implement it. We have asked for the formation of a Cricket Improvement Committee.”
Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning squad, said that the controversial Sports Committee that is runnig the cricketing affairs has no knowledge of the game. He said that the sports committee should be replaced with the improvement committee.
“I am happy with the outcome of the meeting, but will be satisfied once the suggestions are implemented. The cricket improvement committee can’t coexist with the existing sports committee. They (sports committee) have no knowledge of the game. If our suggestions are not implemented, I will continue to fight,” he said.
