London, Nov.30 (ANI): Some of the world’s most famous tennis players arrived in London last week to compete in the World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena, but one the least recognized of them - Russian Nikolay Davydenko - walked away with the title after eight days of gruelling combat.

Now, this tennis great from the Russian city of Volgograd, who beat Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro in the end-of-season title yesterday with a straight-sets win, wants nothing more than to become more famous in his native country.

Davydenko, who picked up 916,000 pounds for his efforts, and beat all the 2009 Grand Slam winners - Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Del Potro, was quoted by The Sun, as saying: “This is a great feeling. I hope after this event, I will became more famous in Russia. For me, it is really important.”

“Now Marat Safin has retired, I hope to get more support in my country. Certainly in London, I have not been recognised. I have not been asked to sign any autographs,” he added.

“Everyone knows the faces of people like Federer and he has to have different hotels for it to be quiet and so he can be with his family. I don’t have that problem. Maybe now I have won here, I will be a little famous in London,” he said.

In the finals, the 28-year-old seventh-ranked player in the world, beat Del Potro 6-3 6-4 in 84 minutes. (ANI)
