Afridi demands better treatment from IPL management
December 20th, 2009 - 2:26 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Dec.20 (ANI): Swashbuckling Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is disappointed with the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) handling of the players’ auction.
The IPL had barred Pakistan players with existing contracts, such as Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal, from playing in the third edition of the cash-rich T20 league because they had failed to meet the deadline of announcing their availability.
Afridi said being a senior player, the IPL management should have included his name directly in the auction list.
“I don’t want to be in a position where I myself have to send in a request that my name be included in the auction,” The Daily Times quoted the slam-bang all-rounder, as saying.
“I’m not saying I don’t want to play in the IPL, but I think I deserve better because of my age and seniority. I would be happy if my name is included directly in the auction or if a franchisee bids for me directly,” Afridi said.
Afridi played for Deccan Chargers in the inaugural edition of the IPL, but his contract was terminated ahead of the second edition, which was shifted to South Africa due to security concerns.
The Pakistan government did not allowed its players to participate in the second edition in the wake of the Mumbai attacks. (ANI)
