Karachi, Sept 18 (ANI): Applauding Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, the country’s ODI and Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi has called on his team-mates to seek inspiration from the player’s exploits to make a comeback in the one-day series against England.
“His performances are an inspiration for all of us and he has brought so much joy to the people. I think our players must also take inspiration from him that nothing is impossible in sports,” the Daily Times quoted Afridi, as saying.
Aisam and his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna finished runners-up at the US Open men’s doubles event after losing against top-seeds and world number one pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
In the mixed doubles final, Aisam and Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic lost in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) against Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber.
Afridi pointed out that the tennis prodigy “may have lost in the finals of the men’s doubles and mixed doubles but he fought hard and gave it his best shot and that is why everyone is proud of him.”
The skipper added that he expected his players to show the same fighting spirit in the remaining one-dayers against England.
It was good to see sportsmen other then cricketers being lauded in the country, noted Afridi, adding that he would love to meet Aisam and team up with him to raise funds for Pakistan flood victims. (ANI)
