Rio de Janeiro, Feb 18 (IANS) On the same day of his 30th birthday, Corinthians striker Adriano celebrated his lowest weight since arriving at the club nearly a year ago.

Corinthians’ physical trainer Fabio Mahseredjian was personally in charge of Adriano and was given the task of preparing the player for the 2012 season.

Adriano was barred by head coach Tite from participating in normal activities with the rest of his teammates and was restricted to activities specifically aimed at losing weight and getting back into shape, Xinhua reported.

Yet to play in a match for Corinthians in 2012, Adriano is now expected to make his debut Saturday in the eighth round of the Sao Paulo state championship against Sao Caetano. Also, Adriano made a positive impression on Tite and earned a spot among the 25 athletes to participate in the 2012 Libertadores Cup.

Arriving at Corinthians in early 2011 with an estimated 104 kilos, Adriano underwent two separate surgeries to repair a torn tendon in his left shoulder as well as a torn Achilles tendon in his right foot. Due to his extended amount of inactivity, Adriano gained weight and was never fully able to take it off.

Returning to an estimated 102 kilos, the athlete is close to his ideal weight of 98 kilos.
