London, Jan 8 (ANI): Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor is confident that he will outshine Chelsea ace Didier Drogba and be crowned King of Africa.
The two strikers are among a host of Premier League stars taking part in the African Nations Cup when it starts in Angola on Sunday.
The Manchester City and Chelsea strikers will go head-to-head when Togo get their long-awaited chance to face Ivory Coast on Tuesday, January 19.
The clash will also see Adebayor, 25, being marked by his Eastlands team-mate Kolo Toure and he admits it will be a dream come true for his small nation, The Sun reports.
“To be honest, for about three or four years my country has been waiting to have a chance to play against Ivory Coast. In Africa people always make it big whenever I’ve had the chance to play against him when at Arsenal or now with Manchester City,” Adebayor said.
“In Africa people try to make it Adebayor v Drogba which I can understand. Drogba is massive in Ivory Coast and Africa and I’ve got the same as well. But Drogba is a cool guy and he’s one of my best friends in this country. We’re always having a laugh in the tunnel and on and off the pitch.
“The pressure isn’t on Togo, it’s on Ivory Coast. They have to win it. We are going just to enjoy it. If we can get to the semi or quarter-final then that would be enough for my country. But Ivory Coast has got massive pressure. They have to win and that’s the big difference,” he added. (ANI)
