Hobart, Jan 12(ANI): Pakistan vice-captain and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal will have a vote in deciding his own fate for the third Test against Australia, starting from Thursday in Hobart.

Kamran is part of a four-man selection committee that picks the teams on tour, alongside captain Mohammad Yousuf, team manager Abdul Raqeeb and coach Intikhab Alam.

“Before the match, there is a selection meeting, and I will decide with the coach and captain if I’m playing or not,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Kamran, as saying.

He also reiterated that he would not play as a specialist batsman in the Test, saying that he was confident of a better performance as wicketkeeper to compensate for his failure in Sydney.

“Nothing is on my mind as a batsman. I am playing as a wicketkeeper-batsman … I will not play as a batsman. I have pride playing for Pakistan as a wicketkeeper-batsman, so hopefully I am playing as wicketkeeper-batsman,” he added.

When asked whether replacement wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed is capable of stepping into his shoes, Kamran said: “No, I’m definitely playing … I’m very keen I am playing in this Test match, but it depends on the captain and coach and management. I’ve worked very hard in the nets. I’m still positive. Hopefully, I will play well here.”

The 27-year-old further claimed that he had the support of the majority of the team.

“They are supporting and encouraging, and a lot of the family is praying for me and brother [Umar] and team also,” Kamran said.

The comment comes after coach Intikhab Alam said that Sarfraz will replace Kamran as the wicketkeeper for the Hobart Test due to his dismal performance behind the stumps on the tour so far.

Kamran has been under intense scrutiny since the Sydney Test, where he dropped Australian middle-order batsman Michael Hussey thrice and also wasted a perfect opportunity to run out opener Shane Watson, which cost Pakistan the game. (ANI)
