Islamabad, Jun.12 (ANI): In its bid to check the usage of performance enhancement drugs by players during the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has intimated all the four participating teams regarding the stringent measures to be put up to nab drug cheats.
According to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) regulations, all players from the participating countries would have to undergo doping tests during or at the end of each match of the biannual tournament starting June 15.
“The Asian body has already intimated all the participating countries cricket boards that strict dope tests measures would be adopted during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka,” The News quoted a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, as saying.
“All the selected 15-member Pakistan team that leaves for Sri Lanka on Saturday (today) have been intimated about the adopted dope tests procedures during the Asia Cup,” he added.
The official also said that due to the lack of time, the PCB did not conduct any ‘in-house’ doping tests of players ahead of the four-nation championship.
No Pakistani cricketer has tested positive in doping tests in any ICC tournament so far.
Fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif were tested positive for steroids when the PCB conducted tests ahead of the Champions Trophy in 2006-07. (ANI)
