abeWashington, Nov. 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The owner of the Washington Wizards, Abe Pollin, passed away yesterday. He was 85 years old at the time of death. The news was delivered by the company he owned, the “Washington Sports and Entertainment” sometime late in the afternoon yesterday. No details have yet been disclosed by his family or the company. It has been assumed that he was not keeping good health after undergoing a bypass surgery in 2005. He was also the victim of a rare brain disorder called “progressive supra-nuclear palsy” that affects movement and balance. He also broke his pelvis into half two years after he underwent the bypass surgery.

Pollin was the longest running owner of the Washington Wizards. He renamed the Baltimore Bullets- the Washington Wizards when he bought the team in 1964. It started a long relationship with the longest tenured team owner in the history of the NBA. Besides being a businessman, he is also known for his philanthropy. His business was family to him, as reported by the ones who had come in contact with him.

The news was declared just before the match between the Wizards and the 76ers was about to start. The game turned an emotional one as the players hit the field with heavy hearts. Current Wizards coach Jordan commented that he felt that it was necessary for him at the moment to stay focused on his job rather than give in to the grief for the man who meant a lot to him and the team. He admitted that the current players are not that aware of the effort Pollin had put in to build up the team.
