abby1July 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Abby Guerra, 19, a University of Evansville soccer player was thought to have died last week after a car accident, but she is actually alive. Abby Guerra and her four other friends met with a car accident on an Arizona interstate while driving back home from Disneyland on July 18, 2010 where two of the five people inside the car died and the others were severely injured. The families of two girls, Abby Guerra and Marlena Cantu mixed up the name of one victim who died and another who was hospitalized thinking the former died and the latter was in critical condition.

Last Saturday the families of both the girls victims were startled to hear the news that it was actually Marlena Cantu who died on spot and the girl who is fighting for her life in the hospital is Abby Guerra. The officials who were at the accident spot incorrectly identified Abby Guerra as dead at the scene of the crash, however, in the hospital the medical examiner’s office declined to identify the body until they could match it with medical records. The authorities took one week for the autopsy to identify the victim and finally revealed the truth.

Abby Guerra’s family was in the process to plan their daughter’s funeral when they heard the news from St. Joseph’s Hospital that their daughter is alive. Abby Guerra is presently suffering from a severe head injury, a broken back and collapsed lung. Tyler Parker, 20, another friend of the victim who was also taken to the hospital, was later declared dead. Families and friends of both the girls are still perplexed how the identities of the victims were mistaken.
