Aamer confident of a good show against Australia
July 13th, 2010 - 6:25 pm ICT by IANSKarachi, July 13 (IANS) Pakistan’s teenage pace sensation, Mohammad Aamer is hoping to capitalise on a couple of match-winning performances in Twenty20 internationals earlier this month during a two-Test series against Australia beginning at Lord’s here Tuesday.
Aamer’s performanes against Australia in Twenty20 have been lauded by seasoned English and Australian cricket experts. He picked up six wickets at a very impressive average of nine runs per wicket and an economy rate of 6.75 runs per over, often bowling at the death.
The lanky fast bowler is raring to have another go at the Aussies.
“I am really excited about playing my first Test at Lord’s against Australia. They are an excellent side with a lot of experience and some fresh faces,” Aamer told Pakpassion.net in an interview.
“The T20s went well for the team and for me personally. However, Test cricket as we all know is a completely different ballgame. Of course, the confidence we were able to gain from the T20s will be an advantage for us.”
If Pakistan are to challenge the strong Australian Test side this summer, Aamer will have to play a key role, and the pacer is relishing the challenge. “I am looking forward to challenging myself against one of the worlds best teams once again,” he said.
Aamer shares the optimism of most Pakistani cricket fans, and feels that the series marks the dawn of a new era for his team. “We are beginning a new era in Pakistan Cricket which I am really excited about.”
He has taken 21 wickets in the first eight Test matches of his career, including eight wickets in the two Tests against Australia Down Under a few months ago, and is looking to improve on that record.
