Kolkata, Nov 25 (IANS) Bravehearts Chirag United soldiered on with ten men to ride past Goa’s Vasco Sports club 3-1 in an I-league football outing at the Salt Lake Stadium here Tuesday. After going ahead, courtesy a sameside by Fulganco Cardozo, the local side struck twice in the second session through Snehasish Chakraborty and Muritala Ali to be at the tenth spot with nine points from 10 matches.
Vasco got the consolation goal with Sherzod Nazarov finding the mark. With only two points in their account, the Goan side now occupy the 12th and last position on the table.
Chirag, however, got a big setback in the 19th minute when their seasoned player Dulal Biswas was red carded after receiving his second booking of the match for elbowing an opponent player. He had got his first yellow only three minutes earlier for a similar offence.
Despite being reduced to ten men, Chirag played confidently with their midfield and frontline combining well. Vasco seemed listless.
A minute into the first half injury time, Snehasish sent a low centre from the left into the six yard box and Muritala went for the header. Vasco goalkeeper Milagrio Madeira dived for the ball. But both missed. The ball came to Fulganco, who put the ball into his own goal to give Chirag a 1-0 lead at the halfway mark.
Crossing over, Chirag maintained the tempo and Snehasish, later adjudged man of the match, doubled the margin in the 54th minute by placing into the net a Muritala square pass from the right.
The scoreline became 3-0 in the 90th minute, when overlapping R. Dhanarajan latched on to a diagonal pass and addressed a low centre from close to the left touchline for Muritala who headed it home.
Just after the kickoff, Nazarov saw Chirag goalkeeper Gopal Das out of position and lobbed towards the goal. The entire Vasco team seemed to be taken by surprise, as the ball almost hit the bar, before dipping into the net.
