wewOhio, Sep 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The eighth-annual Road Runner Akron Marathon proved to be quite eventful both for the participants and the viewers as they saw the participants fighting neck to neck to bag the winning spot. Geoffrey Kiprotich emerged the winner after beating George Towett, the runner-up after running for a little more than 26 miles. The Marathon was held on Saturday morning.

Geoffrey Kiprotich as well as runner up George Towett reached Canal Park together. Both of them are Kenyans. Geoffrey Kiprotich edged ahead of his closest rival at the home stretch. He finished just a second ahead of the runner-up and it was a spectacular finish for sure. Peter Kemboi, another Kenyan came third. Geoffrey Kiprotich said after becoming the winner that he was aware of George Towett’s skill in running and so he put in his best performance at the eighth-annual Road Runner Akron Marathon. However, he had to admit that the rival gave him a real tough time till the end of the race. George Towett said that he was almost sure of making it to the first place and tried hard.

In the women’s race, the top positions were bagged by two novices. The first spot went to a Russian contestant named Ludmila Stepanova while Shanna Ailes became the runner-up. Shanna Ailes said after bagging the second spot that she performed much better than what she had expected. She used to be a gymnast and swimmer earlier. Ludmila Stepanova registered victory despite the fact that her legs were not in the best of conditions.
