49ers Jerry Rice’s Jersey Number 80 retired

jerry rice Sep 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jerry Rice appeared on the sidelines to a standing ovation with less than one minute of play left for the end of first half of the 49ers Monday’s home game at the Candlestick Park.

Rice spent 16 of his 20 years playing career at the Candlestick Park and the fans adored him. Rice who is a pro Football Hall of Famer was joined at the midfield of the Park during half time by his former teammates, coaches and front-office personnel during the ceremony to celebrate his induction into the Hall of Fame.

Rice thanked the multiple fans and said he appreciated the chance they gave him to play for the “greatest fans in the world”. The stadium was decorated to match the planned occasion before kick-off on Monday. A large white 80 was set into the empty orange seats at the Candlestick Park.

Rice played for the 49ers from 1985 to 2000 before leaving for other teams and eventually ending his career in 2005. He played at the 49ers in his famous No. 80 jersey. The number 8 shirt has been retired in the team.

He is the NFL’s all time leader in touchdowns with 208 touchdowns as well as receptions, with some 1,549 receptions and receiving yards, with 22,895 receiving yards. Rice is often argued as the greatest NFL player ever.
