46 boxers found overage in National Youth Championships
June 2nd, 2009 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSCoimbatore, June 2 (IANS) An unprecedented 46 boxers were found overage in the 42nd Youth National Men’s Championships that got underway here Tuesday.
The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) launched a drive to weed out the overage boxers with a series of medical tests.
“Show cause notices have been issued to the state associations for fielding overage boxers in this National Championships,” said IBF secretary-general P.K. Muralidharan Raja.
A total of 197 boxers from 33 states are participating in the championship including Commonwealth Youth Games Gold Medallist V. Santhosh Kumar (60 Kgs), World Cadet Championship gold medallist Vikas Yadav (64 Kgs) and Devendro Singh (48 kgs), who was a gold medallist at the recent International Championship at Cuba.
