44-Year-Old Wrestler Jorge Giant Gonzalez Dies

ggSep 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former WWE wrestler, Jorge Gonzalez expired on Wednesday in San Martina, Argentina. The wrestler died aged 44. Jorge Gonzalez, was suffering from diabetes for a long time and was under dialysis machine for a kidney failure. It was also reported that he resorted to wheel chairs in the last few years of his life.

After his initial years as El Gigante in WCW, he was enrolled in the World Wrestling Entertainment back in 1980s and bore the name of “Giant Gonzales” on the ring. On Wednesday, he died in San Martina after he was brought back from his Colorado home. He was reportedly suffering a “decompensation”. The 7.6 Ft, wrestler had suffered from gradual health deterioration, with kidney failure and inability to walk. He had to cancel the wrestling convention this May in New Jersey, due to his health problems.

Initially a basketball player, he tried to make his luck in Atlanta Hawks in 1988. But his failure as a basketball player, opened up the avenue to pursue wrestling, when Ted Turner, the franchise owner of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) gave him a break as a wrestler. He earned a lot of fame as a WCW wrestler, in the initial years and worked with people like Sting and The Steiner Brothers against Ric Flair, Sid Vicious. He joined WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in 1992. After gaining his bit of success in WWF, he shifted to New Japan Pro Wrestling. He has also been part of the silver screen in many films. Jorge Gonzalez retired as a wrestler in 1995, and since then his health started deteriorating to bring it to a final end in Wednesday.
