40km/h limit for Delhi CWG buses done away with to foil potential terror attacks
September 16th, 2010 - 12:40 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Sep 16(ANI): The 40km/h speed-limit for about 600 Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses pressed into service for carrying athletes during next month’s Commonwealth Games has been relaxed to foil potential terrorist attacks.
It comes after the Supreme Court approved a petition from Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police petition had cited last year’s terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in a bus in Lahore, and said that it would be harder for terrorists to hit a speeding target, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The security wing of Delhi Police has been charged with responsibility for carrying athletes and officials in buses for the Games.
Police officers will be on all buses, which will be escorted by police vehicles at the front and the rear.
The speed relaxation has been granted till October 20. (ANI)
