3D Sports Channel To Be Launched By ESPN

3d_glassesJan 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It seems that 3D is the in thing for 2010. James Cameron’s Magnum opus Avatar wooed the viewers all over the world with its 3D grandeur. The 3D mania seems to have spread to the sports fanatics as well. Leading sorts channel ESPN is all set to launch a sports channel that will offer 3D visuals for the first time. The Walt Disney owned company will introduce a channel that will broadcast 3d live sports events. It is scheduled to be launched on June 11th, 2010. The debut of the channel will be with the broadcast of FIFA World Cup soccer match.

Initially, the viewers will not get to see the channels 24 hours per day. However, in the channel’s debut year ESPN plans to broadcast near about 85 such events in 3D. Chuck Pagano, the channel’s vice president for technology said that it will bring a revolution in the Television sector. The leading consumer electronic companies like Sharp, Sony and LG have aggressive plans to make 3D enabled TVs. However, the viewers are curious to know how the 3d Technology will be implemented.

As per the available news, the viewers will require to use 3D enabled TV sets and glasses to get the thrill of 3D sports in their living rooms. However, the initial cost will be steep as anyone can assume. The present generation HDTVs offer pristine sound and video at cheap rates. So ESPN’s 3D channel may find few takers in the beginning. However, as the technology matures and competitors enter, the price will start sliding downwards.
