Mukesh Kumar in sight of third professional golf titleMarch 29th, 2008 - 10:38 pm ICT by admin
Chandigarh, March 29 (IANS) Mukesh Kumar fired a bogey-free 68 in the third round of the Centurion Bank of Punjab Open Golf Championship to extend his lead to five strokes here Saturday. With a total of 12-under 204, Mukesh is looking good for his third title of the 2007-08 season. Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 69, 71) is in second position at seven under 209. Vijay Kumar is third trailing Bhullar by one stroke at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
Chandigarh’s Harendra Gupta (71, 72, 68) and Delhi’s Manav Jaini (71, 70, 70) are tied fourth with an overall score of five under 211.
Mukesh (67, 69, 68) was the leader for the third consecutive day. On the front nine, the professional from Mhow made eight pars and a birdie on the second. He then picked up the pace on the back nine with birdies on the 13th, 17th and 18th.
“I got aggressive on the back nine and as a result picked up some birdies. It’s not going to be easy tomorrow despite the fact that I have a big lead. The players behind me, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Vijay Kumar and Harendra Gupta are quite capable of shooting very low scores on the final day so I cannot afford to relax,” said Mukesh.
Bhullar sank birdies on the sixth, 13th and 17th and dropped bogeys on the first and ninth. “I started with a bogey on the first and then struggled on the front nine. I did not hit my irons well today and also did not hole many easy putts. I hope to have a far better round tomorrow,” he said.
