Aug 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) At the age of 23 running back Glen Coffee of the San Francisco 49ers has decided to end his football career and move on with life. The third round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers from the University of Alabama last year has already told of his decision to the coach of the team Mike Singletary and issued a statement mentioning the reasons behind the quit. The sudden decision to quit from the game even before his career took off has both surprised and saddened the team members of San Francisco 49ers.
Glen Coffee had appeared in all total 14 games as a rookie for the San Francisco 49ers and carried the ball 83 times. He was due to take the position of the primary backup to starter Frank Gore this season. However, on Friday Mike Singletary said to media sources that Glen Coffee had reportedly said to him that he had lost interest in the game while he was still a University of Alabama player and had felt that it is high time to move on with life out of football. In a statement issued by Glen Coffee, the player maintained that the decision to quit football was a tough one for him but he took the decision to call it quit as it was in his best interest in the present situation. In the statement he thanked his only NFL team and its players for all those things that they have done for him during the last one year.
On the part of the players of the team, many have voiced their disappointment over the sudden retirement of Glen Coffee. Mike Singletary called the retirement decision to a “totally out of the blue” decision that has hit the team. Fellow teammate, running back Michael Robinson said, “I feel bad, like I’m losing a brother. We had no indication”.
