New York, May 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In an unprecedented move the NFL has decided to hold the Super Bowl tournament of 2014 in New Jersey/ New York. The New Meadowlands Stadium which can accommodate 82,566 viewers will be home to the teams New York Jets and New York Giants. It was opened last month. The 2014 super bowl would be special in the sense it will be held in cold climate and outdoors. The two cities that lost the bid for holding the super bowl are Miami and Tampa. Before this the record of the coldest Super Bowl belonged to Tulane Stadium, New Orleans. That was in 1972. It looks like the record will be broken in 2014.
The organizers have said that in the month of February the temperature in New Jersey hovers around 24 to 40 degrees. The NFL earlier always insisted that the Super Bowl tournament should be held in regions with temperature crossing 50 degrees Farenheit mark. Some tournaments have also taken place in stadium with closed roof. However for the Super Bowl XLVIII, the rule has been altered. Miami had strong chance of getting the place for 2014 super bowl as it has hosted Super Bowl for 10 times. The next three tournaments in Super Bowl will be held at Dallas, Indianapolis and New Orleans respectively for the years 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The setting of New York is likely to add to the glamour of the star studded event. However, security also needs to be stepped up before the Super Bowl is held in 2014 in New Jersey. Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City is pretty upbeat about the development.
