Los Angeles, Sept 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 2011 American League Division Series will kick off on Friday with four teams battling it out. The four final teams of the 2011 ALDS are New York Yankees (East Division champions), Texas Rangers (West Division champions), Detroit Tigers (Central Division champions) and Tampa Bay Rays (Wild Card qualifier).

On Friday, the Yankees will be counting on the performance of Alex Rodriguez as they take on the Tigers in the first game of the 2011 MLB Playoffs. A-Rod has not been that phenomenal this season but judging by what the 36-year-old had done in the past, it will be just right for the Tigers to watch out for him. Though A-Rod will be available for the game on Friday, the Yankees may not have him in October when the series will be heating up.

During the last game in the regular season against the Rays, A-Rod left the game because of a knock that he got. The injury may aggravate and render him not fit to feature in October. If that happens, the Yankees will have to turn their hopes on the likes of Robinson Cano, CC Sabathia, Mariano Rivera and of course Rafael Soriano to carry the aspirations of the team.

The other game in the 2011 ALDS will be between the Rangers and the Rays.
