Yousuf Raza Gilani Islamabad, Dec 15 (IANS) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, who was Thursday discharged from a Dubai hospital, spoke on the telephone with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and met Interior Minister Rehman Malik, the president’s spokesperson said.

Zardari had abruptly flown out of the country last week, triggering speculation of a coup.

He has now moved to his residence in Dubai, where Malik called on him Thursday, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar was quoted as saying.

The president later spoke to Gilani, Babar said.

Zardari’s physician Khaldoun Taha, who has been treating him at the American Hospital in Dubai, said all medical investigations carried out were within the normal range.

Zardari was admitted to the hospital after he reported numbness and twitching in his left arm.

While Pakistani Army doctors declared him fit, a US-based magazine said Zardari had suffered a minor heart attack.

Media reports also said he had suffered a stroke that caused bleeding in the brain and facial paralysis.

There were also rumours of a military coup.

“They think that I have fled but escape is not an option. I will never leave as I was born in Pakistan and I will die in Pakistan. I will return in a few days and my enemies will be disappointed,” Zardari told a Pakistani TV channel.
