Peshawar, Feb. 11 (ANI): President Asif Zardari has said Pakistan will request the United Nations to intervene against the continued US drones operations in Pakistans Tribal Areas.
A tribal elder told the Daily Times that Zardari had assured the tribals that he would approach the UN if the US doesnt stop the attacks in the region.
I will take the issue of drone attacks to the United Nations if they (the US) do not stop, Malik Waris Khan, a tribal elder quoted Zardari, as saying during his recent trip to Peshawar.
A tribal elder expressed his disappointment over the fact that despite a new president in the White House, the drone attacks have not stopped in the Tribal Areas.
Another tribal elder Malik Qadir Khan said that he had informed Zardari over the diminishing role of the tribal elder.
The traditional respect accorded to the elders is fading because the government is looking to the mullahs and the Taliban first and the elders later, he complained.
We lost strength and respect because the government agreed to negotiate with the clerics and the Taliban, he added. (ANI)
