Zardari, Nawaz agree on repeal of undemocratic clauses from Constitution

Lahore, July 17 (ANI): President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief Nawaz Sharif here on Friday held a meeting, which lasted for four hours.
An eleven-point joint communiqué containing was released after the meeting, which said both the parties, agreed on continuing negotiations, repealing undemocratic clauses from the Constitution and carrying on the democratic process.
It also said that no one would be allowed to impose his or her will on the people through at gunpoint, The News reported.
The joint statement also said that those who rose to power in February 2008 elections are democratic people and they should resolve people’s problems.
It further said that the parliamentary committee set up for the annulment of 17th amendment must be asked to reach consensus soon. Agreement was also reached on putting an end to the ongoing power crisis in the country.
The issue of Balochistan will be resolved according to the wishes of the people of the province and for which it emphasized role of Balochistan Assembly and Baloch leaders besides the Federation.
The communiqué stressed on implementation of clauses laid down in the Charter of Democracy besides crushing militancy which, it said, has jeopardized the national integrity.
Later, Zardari reached Governor House after meeting with Sharif in Raiwind. (ANI)
