Karachi, Jan 15(ANI): Pakistani think-tank forum Shura Hamdard’s Karachi Chapter has said the WikiLeaks incident has been a lesson that one should not rely on others.

The Karachi Chapter held a meeting on the theme- ‘Disclosures of WikiLeaks and its Impact on the Muslim World and Pakistan in Particular’.

It is noteworthy that whistle blower website WikiLeaks has released a series of secret diplomatic cables, making many critical revelations.

Former Pakistan ambassador Mahdi Masud, who presided over the meeting, said he was optimistic about Pakistan’s future despite its current difficulties.

“Although it depends on external assistance to a considerable extent which was the result of the burden of the war against terror, natural calamity and global financial situation but Pakistan’s strategic importance is such that it could still exercise an independent decision-making capability,” the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.

Masud said he did not allow any information to be leaked when he was an ambassador.

“How could the man, Wiki, get such a lot of information from where he was sitting? We should carefully talk about our country,” he wondered.

“Every country worked in its own interest, so we should also work like that,” he asserted.

Hamdard University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim A Khan raised a question whether WikiLeaks was a test to gauge their reaction, and if it would reveal more shocking information in the future, and in that case what should be done to tackle its awful implications.

MA Sabzwari was of the view that people should be thankful to WikiLeaks, which while declassifying the secret information, opened their eyes and made them understand that who was their real friend and who was not. (ANI)
