Wasim Akram’s wife was taken abroad against doctors’ advice
October 27th, 2009 - 1:12 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Oct 27(ANI): Several doctors who were treating Huma Waseem, the wife of Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram, in Lahore have said that Huma was taken abroad against their advice.
“A panel of 10 senior doctors of three private hospitals of Lahore were not in favour of taking Huma abroad (Singapore) keeping in view her serious condition,” The Dawn quoted one of her physicians, as saying.
The physician said that after undergoing dental treatment in Karachi last month, she had developed a throat infection and also a dry cough. In the first week of October, it was diagnosed that she had developed acute renal failure and her white cell count was increasing.
She also developed other complications during the period, which reportedly included severe infection of the kidney with acute tubular necrosis, inflammation of blood vessels, SIRS and pulmonary hypertension.
The physician further said that Huma was showing signs of recovery when her family decided to shift her abroad.
“She was improving clinically when Wasim Akram decided to shift her to Singapore for better treatment,” he said.
Huma was admitted to a hospital in Chennai after her condition deteriorated in an air ambulance while being flown from Lahore to Singapore for treatment.
Dr Munidar Rao of the Apollo Hospital in Chennai said that when Huma was brought to the hospital she was in septic shock leading to multiple organ failure. He said he was shocked with the fact that she was being shifted in such a serious condition.”I failed to understand as to why she was being shifted to Singapore in such a critical condition,” he said.
Huma died in Chennai on Sunday. She was buried in Lahore on Monday. (ANI)
