War on terrorism has shattered Pak economy: Gilani
July 7th, 2010 - 4:16 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, July 7(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has stressed that his country’s role as a frontline state in the war against terrorism has shattered its economy.
Gilani, however, said: “despite these serious constraints, Pakistan remains resolutely committed to take this war to its logical conclusion and root out the threat of terrorism and militancy from its soil.”
The PM said that Pakistan’s security forces had made great sacrifices in the ongoing war against terror.
“After their defeat in FATA and Swat, militants are now on the run and have started to target urban centers,” The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.
He further pointed out that the threat of terrorism could not be eliminated unless its root causes were addressed through development.
Gilani was talking to a delegation of the International Crisis Group (ICG), led by ICG President Louise Arbour. (ANI)
