Veteran Nepali Leader Girija Prasad Koirala Dies

Kathmandu, Mar 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Girija Prasad Koirala, the former Prime minister of Nepal passed away today after suffering prolonged illness. According to reports, the veteran politician who held the post of Nepali Prime Minister multiple times, breathed his last at his daughter’s home in the capital city of Nepal after he succumbed to multiple organ failure. The President of Nepali Congress was 87 years old at the time of his death.
Sources have stated that Girija Prasad Koirala had been receiving treatment for bronchitis and lungs complication for quite some now and also suffered from low hemoglobin levels. Reportedly, the condition of the veteran leader deteriorated since this morning due to a spell of diarrhoea after which supposedly he went into coma. Although a team of doctors were constantly attending him, they could not do much to save the veteran leader as his condition deteriorated to a large extent. Reports have also revealed that Girija Prasad Koirala had been released from the Marty Ganga Lal Heart Center in Kathmandu earlier this week and since then had put up at his daughter and Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala’s house.
Girija Prasad Koirala, who is one of the most prominent leaders of the political scenario in the Himalayan nation, is known to have played a pivotal roles in bringing an end to the decade old civil war in Nepal and heading the peace process with the Maoist rebels. Moreover, the veteran leader also made his presence felt while abolishing the 240 year old Monarchy in Nepal and transforming it into a republic. His death has come as a rude shock to the political circles in the Himalayan country.
