Washington, May 5(ANI): The respect shown to Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and his body was “far greater” than that shown by the most wanted terrorist to the 9/11 and other victims, the United States has said.
The Saudi-born terrorist, who had evaded capture for a decade, was killed Sunday night in a top secret operation involving a small team of US Special Forces in Abbottabad city, located 50 kilometres northeast of Islamabad and 150 kilometres east of Peshawar.
When asked during a press briefing whether the US was concerned that the way in which bin Laden was killed and buried at sea might hurt President Barack Obama’s ability to reach out to the Muslim world, as he has tried to over the last two years, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney replied: “The efforts that were made to give Osama bin Laden an appropriate burial, following Islamic precepts and traditions, were considerable.”
“However, I would also say that there is nothing — the respect that was shown to him and his body was far greater than the respect that Osama bin Laden showed to the victims on 9/11 or any of his other victims, and that’s because that’s who we are,” he added.
Carney said that the US feels “very comfortable” with the way bin Laden was buried at sea- according to Islamic traditions.
“We feel very comfortable with the fact that we took extraordinary measures to show that respect to the traditions of the Islamic faith,” he maintained. (ANI)
