US faction sees Pak part of problem, not solution to woes facing the region

Islamabad, Oct.17 (ANI): An editorial in one of the leading English dailies of Pakistan has said that the uproar over the controversial clauses in the Kerry Lugar Bill highlights the rift that exists between the US and Pakistani governments.

According to the Dawn editorial, there are some factions inside the Obama administration that believe ‘Pakistan is first and foremost a part of the problem facing the region and ‘not necessarily part of a cooperative solution to regional problems’.

The editorial said that the Kerry Lugar fiasco has clearly shown that the decision-making process in Pakistan is in tatters.

“Parliament was kept out of the loop and potentially influential bodies such as the cabinet committee on defence were not involved,” it went on to add.

The editorial said that the issues such as Pakistan’s covert support to terror groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and nuclear proliferation were included in the bill only because there is a significant camp in the US, which is working against Islamabad.
