Islamabad, May 11 (IANS) US drones fired at least 12 missiles, destroying a militant training camp and killing 14 Islamists Tuesday in Pakistan’s tribal region bordering Afghanistan, officials said.
The camp in Lowara Mandi, 50 km west of Miranshah, in North Waziristan district, was run by Taliban-linked Afghan warlord Hafiz Gul Bahadur, whose group has over 2,000 trained fighters, the officials said.
“A total of 14 militants were killed. They (drones) targeted a compound and vehicles parked outside the house,” a Pakistani security official was quoted as saying by Geo TV.
The nationalities of the dead were not immediately clear, he said.
Over 900 people have been killed in at least 100 drone strikes in Pakistan since August 2008.
