Unholy row in Nepal over secular budget
September 20th, 2008 - 4:14 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kathmandu, Sep 20 (IANS) Violence erupted in Basantapur Durbar Square, the heart of Kathmandu city and a prime tourist draw where the palace of living goddess Kumari is located, early Saturday morning as local youths went on the warpath protesting the lack of money for sacrifices.The Hindu Indrajatra festival ends Saturday. Traditionally sacrifices are performed to mark the close. However, Nepal’s new Maoist-led government did not allocate any money for sacrifices. The finance ministry has also announced the state would not foot the bill for the hundreds of sacrifices in October at the time of Nepal’s biggest Hindu festival Dashain.
