U.N. Secretary-General pledges continued support for peace in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nov 1 (ANI): United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today said that he will continue to pledge UN’’s support to Nepal.
Addressing a special meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) here, the Secretary General said, “I have been, and will continue to watch with great interest, the peace process and its achievements, and to pledge the UN’’s continued strong support.”
The concerted actions of the political parties together with civil society and other stakeholders were vital in bringing about the uniquely Nepali-driven political and social transformation, he added.
Later during a press conference organised by the United Nation Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), he urged the political parties of Nepal to draft a new Constitution and integrate the Maoist combatants through understanding and cooperation.
He highlighted the need of understanding and cooperation to promote the peace process as all the political parties have stated their commitments for the establishment of peace in the country.
He also urged the political parties to follow the value and importance of democracy and human rights and expressed his support to the formation of the special committee for integrating the Maoist combatants.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala during the meeting with Secretary General said that the role of the UNMIN has not been able to be stablised till now.
He praised the UNMINs role in taking the peace process to the logical end. He also stressed the need for playing the role as per the peoples aspiration and opinion, Kantipur reported. (ANI)
