New York, April 16 (DPA) United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has received an investigative report on the murder of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Bhutto died in a gun and bomb attack on December 27, 2007, when she appeared at an election rally in the garrison town of Rawalpindi outside Islamabad. Bhutto’s widower, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, requested the UN investigation carried out by a three-member commission.
Ban was to hand the report over to Pakistani UN Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon soon after receiving it Thursday from the head of the commission, Mexico’s Ambassador Heraldo Munoz. Haroon will forward the report to his government in Islamabad.
The report had been scheduled for release at the end of March, but Zardari requested a two-week delay, apparently so the commission could conduct more interviews.
