‘Ultimately, it’s Pak and India that have to have dialogue and resolve Kashmir issue’: US
December 23rd, 2010 - 1:48 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Dec 23 (ANI): The United States has stressed that the Kashmir issue is a matter between India and Pakistan, as ultimately, it is the two nuclear neighbours who have to resolve the longstanding dispute.
“The issue of Kashmir has come up on a regular basis in our discussions with India and with Pakistan, and our answer to officials of both countries is generally the same, that ultimately, it’s Pakistan and India that have to have a significant dialogue and resolve the issue of Kashmir. There’s no mystery here,” US State Department spokesman Philip J Crowley told reporters at his daily press briefing.
He made these comments in response to a question that “when you have visitors from India and Pakistan, do you discuss with them how to solve this Kashmir problem? And also, what are you asking? What do you ask the Indian officials when they come and meet here and when you visit in India? And - because India is blaming Pakistan, and Pakistan is denying any interference.”
Crowley also said that there has been “no policy change” in Washington on the Kashmir issue, which remains an apple of discord between India and Pakistan. (ANI)
