New Delhi, Sept 26 (ANI): Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni said that the onus of making India a successful tourist destination lies not only with the Ministry of Tourism but also on the entire tourism industry, which includes transport industry.
Soni was speaking at the Convention of the Indian Tourist Transporters Association (ITTA) at Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi today.
When we in the Ministry of Tourism talk about inclusive growth through tourism we are also thinking about those people who are involved in the transport sector as they are vital for sustaining Indias tourism industry, said Soni.
She further said that these people are the real ambassadors of tourism and likely to make India a tourist hub.
Their positive and pleasant attitudes create welcoming environment for tourists, which in turn encourages repeat visitors to India, Soni added.
While talking of opportunities for the transport industry, Soni said, The 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games is a big opportunity for the transport industry.
She suggested that ITTA as a service provider should take up the challenge to provide quality services during the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and sighted the example of efficient service provided by the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and the Beijing Olympics.
The Tourism Minister also emphasized on the safety and security of tourists for the success of tourism in the country.
Please take care of your tourists as if they are your guests in the true spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava, said Soni while referring to incidents of harassment in the recent past.
