‘Totally blind’ Pak police officials admit they are ‘clueless’ over kidnapped Brit toddler

Islamabad, Mar.7 (ANI): Pakistani police officials have admitted that they are clueless over the about the kidnappers of five-year old British toddler, Sahil Saeed, who was abducted on Thursday from his grandmother’s house in Jhelum in Punjab province.
“We are totally blind with no clue in hand so far about the kidnapped child, but our investigation continues. We are concerned about the safety and security of the child,” said senior police official Raja Mohammad Tahir Bashir, who is heading a team of officials working on the case.
Local police official Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmad said the widespread media coverage of the abduction may have caused the kidnappers to go underground and refrain from contacting the family.
“But we are hopeful we will safely recover the boy,” The Dawn quoted Ahmed, as saying.
It may be noted that officials had claimed on Thursday that the case would be solved in 24 hours.
A taxi driver, who was due to drop Sahil and his father to the airport, and some other men were arrested but the police has failed to get any substantial lead in the case from their interrogation.
Earlier, Sahil’s father Raja Naqash Saeed received a phone call on his Pakistani mobile phone, but the investigators are trying to trace the call.
“The boy is with us and we call you later,” the caller said.
Meanwhile, Sahil’s mother has appealed the kidnappers to release her little son, saying said she would forgive them.
“My message is just that I want my son back.That’s the main thing.All is forgiven. God will forgive you. I will forgive you.All I want is my son back. Please give my son back,” an inconsolable Akila Naqqash said.
Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had also spoken to Sahil’s father and assured him that the government is doing all it could to recover the child.
The kidnappers demanded 100,000 pounds as ransom before fleeing away with the child and other valuables during the raid.
While authorities are investigating the role of ‘insiders’ in the kidnapping Sahil’s family members have already rejected the assertion.
It may be noted that Pakistani High commissioner to Britain, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, had pointed towards ‘insiders’ role in the abduction. (ANI)
