Top Pak Army strategist killed in Islamabad shoot out
October 22nd, 2009 - 12:11 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Oct.22 (ANI): A top Pakistan Army official along with another army man were shot down in Islamabad on Thursday morning.
The Deputy Director General Military Operations Brigadier Moin was killed along with another official when unidentified gunmen opened fire at the military jeep in which they were traveling.
According to sources, one army official was also injured in the attack.
Brigadier Moin is believed to have been involved in the strategy making for the on-going offensive in South Waziristan as well as the Swat operation, The Dawn reports.
According to television reports, the military vehicle was targeted in the capital’s G-11sector. The aforementioned area of the city houses several government installations including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) building.
“Witnesses have told us two men came on a motorcycle and opened fire,” city police official Abdul Qadir told a foreign news agency.
Security officials have cordoned off the attack site and an intense search combing operation was on till the reports last arrived.
All checkposts located nearby were put on high alert immediately after the attack, which brought back the horrors of terrorist strikes that have rocked Islamabad in the recent past. (ANI)
