April 29th, 2009 - 5:47 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Apr.29 (ANI): The Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat-i-Mohammadi (TNSM) has refused to resume talks with the government over the issue of the Swat peace deal in the absence of its chief Sufi Mohammad.
Sufi Mohammad has been missing since Sunday and there is no report about his whereabouts.
The TNSM’s deputy chief, Mohammad Alam, said he has no idea about where Mohammad was.
“We don’t know where and how he (Sufi Mohammad) is. Before leaving his home in Maidan on Sunday he told me that he was going to the party office but he did not reach here,”Alam told the Dawn.
However, sources claimed that Sufi Mohammads was still present in Lower Dir’s Maidan region, and had rejected the government’s offer to be flown to his headquarters by helicopter.
Earlier, addressing a press conference Mohammad Alam charged the government of violating the peace accord by launching military offensive in Maidan again.
“We ask the government to stop the military operation immediately. The present situation is the result of the delay in appointment of Qazis and establishment of Darul Qaza,” he said.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has said that it is ready to announce Darul Qaza for Malakand division, but waiting to discuss it with Sufi Mohammad before making any final announcement.
“All arrangements have been finalised and it is a matter of hours for the government to announce the formation of Darul Qaza, but it wants to first discuss it with Sufi Mohammad,” Provincial Minister Iftikhar Hussain said.
When enquired about Sufi Mohammad’s whereabouts, Hussain said: “We are trying to contact Sufi Sahib to make a formal announcement of the Darul Qaza setup.” (ANI)
