Three Pakistanis being probed for theft at Indian HCs houseDecember 10th, 2007 - 3:18 pm ICT by admin
Islamabad, Dec 10 (ANI): Police are investigating three Pakistanis employed at the residence of Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad, Satayabrata Pal, on charges of stealing a laptop and a briefcase last month.
“Yes, we are aware of this case and are pursuing the matter. We have narrowed the theft to three local Pakistanis, and are now questioning them. But no arrests have been made as yet,” police sources said.
“We have also sent questionnaires to some Indian citizens inside the High Commission as well. We hope to get to the bottom of this theft soon,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Office has criticised the theft at Pals residence, and said that this is not a good thing that has happened, as Pal is a guest in Pakistan.
This has happened despite the fact that there is heavy security outside the High Commission, and this is probably the first time that such a theft has taken place, The News reported.
Intelligence sources said that it is unlikely that Satayabrata Pal would have entered any sensitive material on his laptop, as both Indians and Pakistanis are extra careful about this issue.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had sent a team of its experts to Islamabad to probe the theft on the night of November 13 and 14.
A report about the stealing of a laptop and a briefcase from the residence of the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad has been submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs.
According to Indian reports, two Pakistani sweepers and a gardener were working in the High Commissioners residence at the time of theft.
The thieves walked away with these two items only. (ANI)
