Three ex-generals face probe for corruption
June 26th, 2011 - 10:36 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, June 26 (IANS) Three retired Pakistani generals are facing a probe for corruption. The Dawn said Sunday that such an investigation was taking place for the first time in the country.
A committee of the National Assembly has directed the defence ministry and the army to submit a report against the three.
The generals were allegedly involved in dabbling in the stock exchange that led to a loss of nearly Rs.2 billion to the National Logistics Cell (NLC).
The NLC is a subsidiary of the Planning Commission but is dominated by the army.
An audit report said the NLC management had taken unauthorised loans of Rs.4.3 billion between 2004 and 2008 for investment in the stock market.
“The three retired army general and a bureaucrat need to be brought to justice,” an official was quoted as saying.
