Three die in blast near UN office in Peshawar (Lead)
September 3rd, 2012 - 12:45 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Aug 3 (IANS) Three people were killed and five injured Monday when a huge car bomb exploded close to a UN office and the residential quarters of the US consulate in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, a media report said.
Police said explosion took place near residential quarters for the US consulate and foreign aid organisations at Abdara road in University Town, reported Geo News.
The injured include foreigners.
Police cited initial reports that suggested the blast was a car bomb. The vehicle was parked around 25 metres from the office of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
The bombing caused a big crater in the road and destroyed a jeep, besides damaging the walls of four houses.
“We are not sure about the nature of the explosives at the moment or whether it was a remote control bomb or not,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
