Three dead in shrine blast in northern Pakistan
February 5th, 2011 - 1:56 am ICT by BNO NewsLAHORE, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) — An explosion on Thursday night killed three people and injured 30 more in a shrine in northern Pakistan, Ary News Television reported on Friday.
The blast took place at the shrine of Haider Sain in populous city of Lahore. Police forces were rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. Traffic was diverted away from the shrine as well.
Initially, it was reported that the bomb was hurled from a passing truck. However, Lahore police said that an improvised explosive device was planted outside the Haider Sain shrine.
Forensic experts and bomb experts were analyzing the site and gathering evidence. Police said that it has received threats to shrines recently but no criminal organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.
On Tuesday, a bomb planted on a passenger bus killed nine people at the Tela Band area in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan. The explosive device also injured at least 15 individuals.
Last weekend, terror attacks marred northern Pakistan as a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden truck in Kohat tunnel, which connects the northwestern cities of Peshawar and Kohat.
Minutes later, an oil tanker outside the tunnel caught fire and exploded, damaging several vehicles. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan took responsibility for both Saturday attacks.
