Taliban may resort to more ‘rapid attacks’ similar to UN’s WFP building attack : Malik

Islamabad, Oct.6 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has warned that the Taliban could carry out more suicide attacks similar to Monday’s strike on the UN building in which five persons were killed and three others wounded.
Talking to media persons outside the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) building in Islamabad, where the attack took place, Malik said the Taliban might resort to ‘rapid attacks’ as a last ditch effort to pressurize the government amid reports about fresh military operation in South Waziristan.
Malik said more such strikes could take place in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad, The Daily Times reports.
The suicide blast, which took place in the posh locality of Islamabad, has raised questions over the security arrangements in the city.
Sources said the attacker had entered the city with over six kilograms of explosives despite the fact that there are over 70 check posts installed on the outskirts of Islamabad to keep a vigil on every movement in and out of the federal capital.
It is worth mentioning here that barely four days ago Malik had warned about such terror strike.
“There are some intelligence reports that militants could target some important installations and personalities in the country,” he had said.
Despite having such information and apprehensions the authorities failed to prevent the Monday’s attack, which certainly questions Pakistan’s sincerity in tackling terrorism. (ANI)
