Karachi, Dec. 15 (ANI): Sunday’s stunning bank robbery in which foreign currency equivalent to 311.2 million rupees were looted from the Allied Bank here, has left the security agencies worried, as they fear that the looted money could land in the Taliban’s lap.
Earlier it was reported that the bank’s private security guard, Shahid Mehmood and his four associates executed the heist. But further investigations have revealed that an unnamed man had used fake national identity card of Mehmood to secure the job of a security guard in the bank.
According to a senior police officer, the main suspect had used the Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) of Shahid Mehmood to get a job in the security company.
“He didn’t even replace the picture of Shahid Mehmood with that of his own. However, he had submitted his own photograph along with the copy of the CNIC at the company,” The Dawn quoted the official, as saying.
Officials are now certain that the ‘main suspect’ belongs to Peshawar, prompting them to include the possibility of Taliban linkage with the loot.
According to sources a police team headed by a senior officer has been sent to Peshawar to trace the whereabouts of the main suspect with the help of local authorities.
