Taliban could spread its wings in India too: Qureshi

Islamabad, June 15 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has raised fears over the Taliban’s expanding writ in the country saying that the outlawed terror organization could spread its nefarious activities into neighbouring India.
In an interview to a foreign newspaper, Qureshi expressed fears that the Taliban could expand its writ to regions as far as Persian Gulf.
“The militants have a global agenda, they have a regional agenda, and they are not confined to Pakistan. They could go in to the Persian Gulf, they could go in to India, they can go anywhere,” The News quoted Qureshi, as saying.
Qureshi said Pakistan need more help from the international community to check the Taiban’s expansion and quell extremism from its soil.
He said Pakistan was not the only country suffering from such serious problem, and it requires a more cohesive effort to thwart the challenges posed by the different terror organizations.
“There is a collective interest and there has to be a collective realisation that this is not Pakistan’s problem. It’s a larger problem,” Qureshi added.
Commenting on the Swat military offensive, Qureshi highlighted that a mammoth effort was needed to lift the region, once the offensive is accompalished, and peace and stability returns to the valley.
He said Islamabad would need an additional aid of about 2.5 billion dollars as emergency relief to carry out rehabilitation work in the Swat Valley. (ANI)
